Frequently Asked Questions

Here are several scenarios where you might be eligible for another J-1 visa, even if you’ve participated in the past:
  • If you completed an Intern program and still qualify as an Intern, you can apply again after waiting 90 days before starting a new program.
  • If you completed an Intern program but now qualify as a Trainee, you must wait 2 years before beginning a new program.
  • If you completed a Trainee program and want to pursue another Trainee program, you must also wait 2 years before starting a new program.
  • If you finished a Trainee program and now qualify as an Intern (for example, if you returned to university to continue education), you need to wait 90 days before beginning a new program.

You can reach your sponsor through email, phone, and an emergency line during your program. Advisors are available from 9 AM to 5 PM (PST), and the emergency line operates 24/7. Monthly check-ins and mid and final evaluations will also be provided.

If you’ve found your own host company, we can assist you in securing the necessary DS-2019 and other resources through our “Self-Placed” service. Contact us for more information.

Following the end date of your program as listed on your DS-2019, you’re granted a 30-day grace period to freely travel the country. However, you cannot engage in training or earn money during this time.

Under certain conditions, such as participation in government-funded exchange programs or graduate medical education, you may be subject to the two-year home-country physical presence requirement (Rule 212(E)). This means you must return to your home country for a cumulative total of at least two years before changing status, adjusting status, or obtaining certain visas.

We advise against purchasing non-refundable items like plane tickets and accommodations until after you’ve received your J-1 visa from the US Consulate in your home country. Delays and visa denials can occur unexpectedly, and we’re not responsible for any additional expenses incurred.

While opportunities to extend your program exist, they are not guaranteed. Extensions are generally possible if your original program lasted less than 8 months. Contact us to explore extension options.

Emergency medical insurance is provided during your program, covering illnesses and medical emergencies. Optional travel insurance is also available to reimburse program and travel expenses in case of cancellation or interruption.

The J-1 visa is intended for participation in an approved exchange program followed by a return to your home country. Changing visa types while in the US is not supported. If you wish to apply for another US visa, it’s recommended to do so from your home country after completing your exchange program.
